When used with the term "industry", the schmata industry refers to the clothing industry, specifically in new york city, and specifically in reference to the women's clothing industry.

A person (usually a woman) who is a either a casual sex partner or mistress who is considered by their lover or society to be as worthless as a schmata or dish rag due to their lack of primary status.
